The Second Nature Education Program was Held at Çardak Lagoon

On November 12, 2025, under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Okan YAŞAR, a faculty member of the Department of Geography Education, a nature education program was held at Çardak Lagoon with first, second, and third-year undergraduate students as well as graduate students. As is well known, lagoons separated from the sea by a coastal spit or barrier are excellent laboratories for nature education, serving as areas where aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems converge. This study was therefore conducted at Çardak Lagoon. Fieldwork was conducted at Çardak Lagoon, focusing on the formation of the lagoon, its importance as geographical heritage, its values, ways of utilizing the lagoon, and environmental threats affecting this aquatic area.

Following the nature education, the historical geography of the Çanakkale Strait coastline was explained. The settlement history of Çardak Town was explained, highlighting the impact of the complex built by Gazi Yakup Bey in Çardak on the town's development. The role this settlement played in history as a military gathering place and for trade was discussed. The study was then completed with a visit to the Gazi Yakup Bey complex in Çardak, which is of great importance in terms of our tangible cultural heritage.
