“Compost Wastes Project for Green Tomorrows with Hope for the Future‘’ Closing Workshop Held
At Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (ÇOMÜ), the closing workshop of the project ‘Composting Wastes for Green Tomorrows with Hope for the Future’ supported by the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) was held at the Faculty of Education Conference Hall. The event was attended by 150 participants including academics, students, representatives of non-governmental organisations and citizens.
The programme started with opening speeches. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Evren Erginal, Lecturer at the Department of Geography Education, emphasised the importance of nature conservation and sustainable projects, while Assoc. Prof. Dr. Melis Ulu Doğru, Director of the Institute of Graduate Studies, Prof. Dr. Muzaffer Özdemir, Dean of the Faculty of Education, and Rector Prof. Dr. R. Cüneyt Erenoğlu shared the university's vision on environmental awareness and congratulated the project team. The speakers stated that such projects play a critical role in raising awareness of nature and benefiting the society.
After the opening speeches, the project team made detailed presentations. Havva Çavuş conveyed the rationale and objectives of the project, while Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serkan Yavuz shared the project needs analyses. Selma Nur Avcı talked about the environmental benefits of composting, while Özkan Aktaş presented the details of the trainings carried out within the
scope of the project. Finally, Cansu Aksu introduced the project web page and showed a short documentary summarising the process to the participants.
In the closing workshop, the processes, outputs and benefits of the project were discussed. The event, which was held in line with the goals of contributing to nature, raising environmental awareness and disseminating sustainable living practices, ended with a collective photo shoot after the question and answer session.
