Tübitak 2209-A Project Workshop Prepared by Students of the Department of Geography and Social Studies Education was Held

The TÜBİTAK 2209-A Project Workshop, where the outputs of four projects prepared under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ahmet Evren Erginal and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Oya Erenoğlu from the Department of Geography and Social Studies Education at the Faculty of Education were shared, was held at the Faculty of Education Conference Hall.

The findings of the project titled "Discovering the City of Legends Troy through Orienteering," led by Berat Berk Ünlü and Ahmet Cingirt, as well as the project titled "A Different Perspective on Cultural Heritage Awareness: Ancient City Orienteering," led by Yasin Buğra Vardar and Dilay Gevrek, were presented at the workshop under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Oya Erenoğlu. Additionally, Şeyma Zeynep Karaman's project titled "Analytical Examination of Marine Algae as Bioindicators of Metal Pollution in the Coastal Areas of the Dardanelles: A Study," and İrem Melis Yılmaz's project titled "An Analytical Study on the Records of Metal Pollution in the Coastal Areas of the Dardanelles on Mussels (Mytilus Galloprovincialis)," were presented under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ahmet Evren Erginal.

In her opening speech at the workshop, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Oya Erenoğlu stated that they aim to target both physical and mental development through orienteering while also raising awareness about cultural heritage. Erenoğlu emphasized, "These projects aim to provide our students with both physical activity and mental development, while also aiming to increase interest in our cultural values."

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Evren Erginal provided brief information about environmental pollution and the transfer of toxic heavy metals in the food chain. Erginal stated, "The use of marine algae and mussels as bioindicators of metal pollution plays an important role in identifying environmental risks."

In the closing speech of the workshop, Prof. Dr. Okan Yaşar, the Head of the Department of Turkish and Social Studies Education, expressed that such projects will enhance students' project cultures and assist them in future opportunities. Yaşar said, "These types of projects contribute significantly to our students' academic and research competencies, paving the way for their future academic success."

After the presentations by the project teams and the question-answer session, the workshop concluded.
