Students of the Department of Geography Education Conducted Field Work in Yenice and Its Surroundings
 
Second-year students of the Department of Geography Education carried out field work in Yenice and its surroundings on April 20, 2024.  A group of 18 students participated in the field study led by  Lecturer Gülsen Erginal and  Prof. Dr.  Ahmet Evren Erginal. Within the scope of the study, dendrochronology training from tree rings was given by  Assoc. Prof. Dr  Fatih Tuncay Efe, head of the Forestry Department at Yenice Vocational School, and explanations were made about the different tree species and growing conditions in the campus garden, as well as the Kazdağı ecosystem. Then Assoc. Dr. Efe introduced our students to the innovative products produced within the scope of the TÜBİTAK project titled "Production of Lightweight, Recyclable, Thermal Insulation Boards from Non-Wood Forest Products". Our students learned about the production of insulation materials from organic materials such as pine bark, sunflower stalk, hazelnut shell and cones.
After field work at Yenice Vocational School campus, the group visited Hıdırlar Thermal Spring area. Following explanations on the geological structure and active tectonics of the geothermal area by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Evren Erginal, Lecturer Gülsen Erginal made explanations on topics such as the exit centers of the geothermal waters that rise to the surface with a temperature of 86 ° C in the area, the geochemical properties of the water, balneotherapy, greenhouse cultivation and its use in the treatment of diseases. Additionally, the climatic potential of Hıdırlar Thermal Spring and its surroundings was explained. Finally, observations were made around Atikhisar Dam.
